GREECE

Image
We're slowly discovering new parts of Greece, being shadowed by other campers ( mostly German).  Did few stops on Eubea island. The second largest Greek island after Crete but connected with the main land by a bridge. With it's mountainous scenery and harpin turns the road to find a new beach becomes a journey.  But so worth it!  Unfortunately the weather wasn't that great but ouzo and fresh fish helped to lift our mood πŸ˜€πŸ˜€! Now we're not far way from Corinto. We found a perfect place to stop for a few days. It wasn't easy as most of the beaches here have no camping sign but this place is like a little paradise. There are no houses here, only a small church with abandoned olive trees.  The road in the forest has recently been reopened. Before it was closed due to drought and fire risk. We even had some sun and went for a swim (the water is 22°C).  Fingers crossed it will be sunny for few mo...

GREECE

Coming back to Greece is a little bit like coming home because you're in European Union and because we've been here 3 times before. So you kind of feel familiar. We went directly to Lidl's and got everything made of pork🐷. We're simple, just give us things that we like to eat and drink!πŸ™‚ Don't need much in life! 🀣We never visited north east part of Greece, close to Turkiye. I really like the sleepy, abandoned atmosphere of sea side villages.  Almost no one, apart from campers. For October it seems like a lot of them. I think most of us ( camper people)got a bit put off and scared of new rules implemented by Greek government in regards to wild camping. So we all thought October is a quiet month, most of the tourists are gone so the rules won't be that strict anymore. And we were right πŸ‘, unfortunately we didn't expect the weather to be so bad😭. Proper autumn 🍁.  On our way south in search for some sun: *we passed plenty of cotton f...

TURKIYE SUM UP

Image
Turkiye is such a huge country with so much to offer! With varied landscape changing from the sea to the mountains, canyons, salt lakes and dry steppes. On our way we only met kind people that greeted us curiously, offered us cay ( tea) and wanted to chat. Turkish people like staying together maybe that's why even in a huge empty picnic areas they would park next to you and put the loud music on 🀣🀣. The environmental education is way behind our standards. Sadly you can see rubbish laying all over except tourists cities that are kept clean for foreigners. Turkish economy is increasing however the standards of life are not equal for everyone. The food prices are high in the supermarket, more affordable if you're going to the local market.   I think Turkiye is definitely not a free country. We asked a Turkish family have they ever travelled outside Turkiye and they said it's difficult for them to get the passport if you don't know someone or work in a publi...

TIME FOR A CHANGE

Image
This is our last night in Turkiye. We've crossed the Canakkale bridge ( quite expensive 16€ for 600 m)  and tomorrow go to Greece. We have been here for 1,5 month so we're ready for a country change. In our last 2 weeks on the Mediterranean coast we: * Explored lot of different spots- from mass tourism to small bays that were ours for a day- September is a great month to visit- less tourists   *Felt the weather change - now up north ,close to Canakkale it's 20°C day max and in the evening it's time for a cosy blanket and cay πŸ™‚ ( tea in Turkish). Franco tried fishing today but he got out pretty quickly - the water temperature dropped to 19°C * Experienced Turkish hospitality which we thank Mehmet for - he gave us a good insight information and even gave us his olives !  We really looking forward going to Greece though so we can pay less for a beer( 2€ per can in Turkiye) and eat some pork! πŸ·πŸ˜€

TURKIYE MEDITERRANEAN COAST

Image
We're slowly visiting the Mediterranean coast of Turkiye. Started off with the eastern part, not reached by mass tourism yet, where the beaches are hidden between banana plantations.  So tasty the tiny bananas!  Gazipasa and it's natural swimming pools-the only big city that we would recommend for someone looking for an all inclusive holiday. Seems quite and sleepy but trust me it's a good thing comparing to other cities like Antalya with massive resorts and beaches situated on the other side of the busy road. Franco is spoiling us with fish and even got some oysters!  We went to a restaurant for the first time in a month.  Firstly because we were a bit afraid of getting a food poisoning and secondly because it was hard to find places that serve alcohol. Well it's a different story here on the coast. You even see women in a 2 piece swimming suit which was unthinkable in the east or at the lakes t...

TURKIYE FINALLY THE SEA

Image
We were putting off to go down to coast as long as possible because of the heat. We spent our last days inland between Egidir lake and Koprulu canyon. Egidir lake stay was very peaceful and lazy.  Sadly the lake is paying it's toll for global warming. We can see that water level has decreased significantly.  The water in some points were clear and good for swimming. We even bought the freshwater prawns which marks a clean quality water for prawns to breed.  Koprulu canyon at the other end was loud and chaotic!  Being close to the coast it's packed with organised tours for rafting, zip line and quad safari. Forget if you're looking for peace and nature πŸ˜‚. The canyon itself is really beautiful with a cold water ( 20°C) that wakes you up instantly!  The swimming spots are limited though because of private camping sites , hotels and rafting companies situated along the river bank.  We're at the seas...

TURKIYE BEYSEHIR LAKE

Image
One hour drive from Konya city, situated in the lake region, the third biggest sweet water lake in Turkiye. We found a lovely place for a few nights. In Turkiye there are a lot of free spots for  a picnic equipped with gazebos, water sinks and toilets.  As long as you're not staying there at the weekend you can appreciate peace and nature. We met few fisherman and the Turkish guy that lives in Netherlands who translated that 10years ago the water level was much higher and you could swim here. Now it's full of vegetation and not very inviting. But at least there is still carp fish.  Than we wanted to visit Kizildag National Park but Jandarma told us that it's closed because of drought emergency and we can only go and see Pinargozu cave.  The cave was closed but there was a picnic zone and a very cold river spring with trout in itπŸ˜€ ( we only got 1 but it was delicious πŸ˜‹)! . From there...
