Gjirokaster

On our last day in Albania and close to Greek border we've stopped to visit Gjirokaster- world heritage site. Parked Rocco far away from chaos on the public parking and climbed up.
The castle is the most known attraction so we followed the crowd.
Let's say that the most interesting part of the castle was the open space theatre.
Guess 4 Euros for just seeing empty hollow rock corridors without even one free exhibition felt like cheating a bit. Come on Albania!
Instead of staying in the centre we've opted to celebrate our last day in the restaurant outside the city.
They were very nice and let us stay overnight on the parking lot.
Overall I feel like I have mixed feelings about Albania. My travel experience comes obviously from camper point of view.
The placed we enjoyed the most is where we found less people and were surrounded by nature. I can recommend Lake Ocrida, Karavasta Lagoon and although haven't been to Albanian Alps I think they are a must see.
The coast for us was inaccessible with rubbish all over. More inland we went the surrounding were well kept and people friendlier. In non touristy places everyone was very kind. The views were breathtaking everywhere we went, with the mountain background. I still feel though that after this 3 weeks I am missing something. Maybe I am missing Albania from 8 years ago when we came here in camper with our friends.Well, you cannot stop progress and changes it brings, both good and bad.
Left the Albanian Alps for the next time, so we will be seeing you again Albania!
