Discovering The Island
Last 3 weeks has flyed by. Time goes quickly when you're in a good company ๐.
We had enough time to discover stories between the island, meet new friends and get bored with the same places๐คฃ.
Being on the island limits moving around, especially in camper because there aren't a lot of roads suitable for camper but we discovered them by bike.
Many people that come to San Pietro for at least 20 years do notice that since the TV series L' Isola di Pietro the place boomed with tourism and not in the good way.
The special atmosphere has gone. For me it was the first time and I loved it, but don't think I would like to be here in August when the amount of people exceeds the island capacities.
There are some sad stories of abandoned places and vandalism by local youth which is quite difficult to understand. On the photo you can see this huge hotel complex that was never completed and now is abandoned and vandalized.
Plus all the houses that get vandalised during the winter time when the tourists go home. At Cala Vinagra bay this occurs regularly. Cala Vinagra in the past was used as a Tonnara (place where fishing nets were installed to entrap tuna).Nowadays there is a beautiful abandoned house for sale.
When you get there you can't believe that places so beautiful exist. We got here by bike and our legs were on fire with all the hilly road to cycle.
But there is always an incentive ๐. Porcedu evening was awaiting for us! You will ask "What is Porcedu"? The foto speaks for itself! ( vegetarian friends do not look!)
On our last weekend there was Casca festival dedicated to cous cous- the typical dish of an island with deep Tabarchine roots ( see the island history on the web).
Later in the evening I watched the real dancers - so elegant, proud and misterious! One day in Argentina, Franco and I will go to the real Tango classes!
One of the best part of this holiday was meeting Francesco and Suzi! They come to the island since Suzi was little.
Nowadays they stay here for about 5 months a year in their roulette parked on the land they bought. They gave us a lot of insight into the island history and we spend such a great evening at their home! We promised to visit them in Callosso di Asti where they normally live!
