Bulgaria
I love Bulgaria! We didn't realise this country has so much to offer! From numerous mountain chains, thermal pools to lakes and sea. Wild camping isn't a problem here since it seems every bulgarian owns a roulotte 🙂.
Meet Baba Vanga- bulgarian Nostradamus.
Known in all balcanic region and post sovietic bloc countries ( I heard of her in Poland), mystic and healer who claimed to have foreseen the future. She made a lot of prophecies some of which has come true like 9/11, brexit or Barack Obama becoming a president. We visited the visitors centre created by her foundation. It's a special place for bulgarians as we have sensed a solemn atmosphere.
I have to admit though that we went there because of the free thermal pools😊.
Bulgaria is full of thermal centres! This one was great with boiling hot water source and everyone chilling in open space. We decided to have a bath in the evening cose with 35 °C during the day only bulgarians were brave enough to have a hot bath.
Did you know that Bulgaria makes delicious wine! We were quite sceptic but we tried rosé and red wine. Unfortunately it is quite expensive. It was hard to find a bottle under 5 euros in the supermarket and we weren't brave enough to buy it on the road. You can find stalls with homemade produce all along the road. We visited the most known village Melnik in the wine region. It's cute but very touristy so we just had a walk and moved on.
It was extremely hot and with no air con so the only option was to climb up.🙂The mountains came to the rescue. Pirin national park welcomed us with off grid non touristy spot where we had a beer in a post sovietic mountain shelter that we didn't even believe was open,
Famous bulgarian symbolist painter that we met in the tiny mountain village at the end of the road, where he escapes during the the summer heat. We spent a lovely few days here, sharing our meals, tasting rakia and mixing english , bulgarian and polish into our conversations.Blagodarya Alexander 👍
